At Sundance, someone criticized Justin Lin for his portrayal of Asians in “Better Luck Tomorrow,” implying that it didn’t fit the stereotype of Asians as hardworking, obedient students. 

Response: Roger Ebert got on a chair and “… went on to say that Asian-Americans should be free to take on any types of roles they choose without fear of misrepresenting the entire community.”
